Indy Tech Confirmed In-Foal to Fiber Sonde

Indy Tech (by Aptitude) has been confirmed to be in-foal to Fiber Sonde. This mating brings all kinds of genetic deliciousness. Four daughters of Buckpasser combine, 3 of the 4 in very influential positions in the pedigree. Plenty of Bold Ruler (and even more Nasrullah, by extension), lots of Princequillo, only one line of Raise A Native. This mating should provide a good mixture of speed, stamina, and soundness. Most intriguing in this pedigree, though, is that both the sire (Fiber Sonde) and the broodmare sire (Aptitude) trace tail-female to conduit mare and named "Reines-de-Course", Hildene, through half brother and sister Hill Prince and First Flush. To find out just how influential Hildene is, I direct you Ellen Parker's excellent article on this mare here. The bottom line is that this mating just simply piles on more of what made both A.P. Indy and Aptitude, and mildly resembles the mating that produced the great multiple Gr. 1 winning Empire Maker.

Indy Tech is a mare that has excellent hooves and has no issues going barefoot around the farm. Her hooves do not split, do not easily chip, and being barefoot causes her no discomfort at all. This is an important attribute to pass on to an offspring whenever possible. Having 40 starts (and was still training when I purchased her), she has good, solid bone to pass on as well. This mare's smaller stature (maybe 15.2hh) also allowed her to handle the tight turns of Charles Town with ease, and her race record and videos show that she utilized her size to her advantage at Charles Town. She won at both sprint and mile+ distances ranging from 4 1/2 furlongs to 9 furlongs.

If you want a preview of what this mating will produce, look no further than a 2011 filly named Bajan in California, training and running under Simon Callaghan's care. She placed in a MSW race against an all-male field and got stuck behind traffic in the stretch, but was still able to bulldog her way through for a close second. In her second race, she broke her maiden in another MSW race against a tough filly field. Bajan is also by another son of Silken Cat, Speightstown, and out of another Aptitude mare in Critikal Reason, making the interior portion of the pedigree identical to the one in the Fiber Sonde / Indy Tech mating (including the tracing tail-female to Hildene), though overall this mating leans a little more toward mile or classic distance, instead of the sprinter types of Speightstown.

Though he was never raced, Fiber Sonde's offspring have been getting to the track at a very high rate and have been hitting the board with relative ease, being profitable for his connections and those of the mares he was bred to. I was at the track one night with my kids and the winners of two back-to-back allowance races were BOTH sired by Fiber Sonde! I was convinced at that time that I had made the right decision with this mating.  Another important note is that I have not heard of any of Fiber Sonde's offspring breaking down at the track. I spend plenty of time at the track where most of his offspring race and have heard about other horses breaking down, so I would probably hear about it if it were to happen.

The resultant foal of this mating will be available sometime fall of 2014 after weaning, and will include Jockey Club and WV-bred registrations.
